Rosie L. Reed was the oldest of eight children born to the holy union of Eugene and Viola (Green) Sims. Rosie was born on August 10, 1910 in West Point, MS. Her Homegoing was a day full of love, Valentine's Day, Sunday February 14, 2010. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age in Mississippi where her young adult years were spent. In West Point, MS Rosie met and married Early Frank Reed on February 4, 1931. To this holy union, 6 children were born, four daughters and 2 sons. The family moved to Gary, IN in 1945 where Early Sr. worked at U.S. Steel until his retirement. She was a member of the Classy Ladies Red Hat Society #6053, Senior Citizen Friendship Club, International Masonic Lodge and Order of the OES, and loved to cook pound cakes. Rosie worked in the Gary Public Schools System before retiring and moving to Bangor, MI. There she had loving memories of country living with her loving family. Raising pigs, turkeys, gathering eggs, raising corn and just enjoying her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren during summer vacations and weekends. Rosie owned and operated a state licensed nursing home for over 20 years. Her husband, Early F. Reed; sons, Clarence J. Reed, Early Reed, Jr; parents, Eugene and Viola Sims and son-in-law, James Joiner preceded her in death. Rosie leaves to cherish fond memories, daughters, Arbelia "Bea" Caruthers, Mae (Samuel) Wells, Viola "Pee Wee" Joiner of Gary, IN. Earnestine "Tina" (Freddie) Shipman of Kalamazoo, MI; sisters, Alice Crawford of Milwaukee, WI, Doris Boozer of Dayton, OH. She will be sadly missed by 20 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren; great-great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends. Visitation Monday, February 22, 2010 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Funeral Services at 12 noon 510 West 13th Avenue. All services at Koinonia Baptist Church, 510 West 13th Avenue, Pastor Lavern Swain. Interment Evergreen Memorial Park.
