David, 73, of Onondaga, Michigan, left us to be reunited with this wife of 51 years, Phyllis (Yerxa) Squires, and the Lord on March 30, 2020. David was born to Vernon L. and Ruth Ola (Moninger) Squires, who have preceded him in death.

David proudly served his nation in the Marine Corps, serving in active duty during the Vietnam War from 1965 until his honorable discharge in 1969. He worked for over 30 years for the Department of Corrections in Jackson as a sergeant. David's fundamental desire to serve his community and country continued with his membership in the Onondaga Fire Department, where he served as a volunteer firefighter and included serving as the Fire Chief for 11 years.

He loved playing euchre, going fishing, and watching NASC hobbies, or being with faAR. He was a huge Spartan fan. David also enjoyed taking cruises and traveling. Whether it was work, traveling, enjoying his mily, he was always on the go and was a hard worker. He had great compassion for his nation, his community, and especially his family, which he fiercely loved and doted on.

David is survived by his children, Cindy (Danny) Ward and Randy (Allison) Squires; grandchildren: Keri Foster, Shane Ward, Danielle Ward, Dominik Squires, Stephen Squires, and Gwen Squires; and brother, Richard Johnson.

Along with his parents and wife, David is preceded in death by his brother, Bill Foster.

A Military Honors Service will be held at a later date after the current restrictions in response to the Covid-19 virus pandemic are lifted. A private family interment ceremony for Phyllis and David will be held at Fort Custer after the Military Honors Service.

Arrangements entrusted to Vickers Leslie Funeral Home, Leslie, MI.
