JOAN DUKES: A RECORD OF ACCOMPLISHMENT
State Senator Joan Dukes is one of the toughest and savviest defenders rural Oregon has in the Legislature. Joan fights hard for kids, for working families, for salmon and for our transportation needs - and she's not afraid to take on the special interests.
EDUCATION
Joan continues to be one of the Legislature's most eloquent spokesmen for children and schools. She fights hard for adequate funding and for the needs of special education. "I won't stop talking about schools until we give students the education they need and deserve."
SALMON
Joan works on salmon issues at the State, regional and international levels. She serves on the committee overseeing the Oregon Salmon Plan and chairs a multi-state fisheries task force. "Some people might be ready to give up on salmon. I'm not one of them. I'm using the knowledge and experience I have to work for solutions."
TRANSPORTATION
As the leading Democrat on the Senate Transportation Committee, Joan fought for adequate resources for all modes of transportation - roads, rail, air and transit. "Rural communities need and deserve more investment in our transportation infrastructure. It is vital to keeping our communities alive."
OPPOSING SPECIAL INTEREST GIVEAWAYS
Joan helped lead the fight to stop efforts to shift corporate taxes onto homeowners. "Oregon's homeowners don't deserve this treatment. It's a subsidy they simply can't afford.
JOAN DUKES: EXPERIENCED AND EFFECTIVE
Joan believes in building coalitions to achieve solutions. She uses town hall meetings to bring people together and created a state-wide task force on pain management that is currently working to identify barriers to effective treatment for pain and suffering. "Working together we can find solutions. No one can do it alone."
