Sydney Merlone (Cox) Kuebler Johnson, 81, returned to her Heavenly home from her Tremonton, Utah residence on Thursday, 2 April 2020, due to osteoporosis complications from many compression fractures in her back.

Syd was born in San Francisco, California on 20 December 1938, to Charles Merle and Iona Serena (Olsen) Cox (who married on 12 February 1938 and were sealed on 10 August 1993). She was the eldest of their three daughters.

In August 1957, Syd married Robert Irving Kuebler. Then, on 12 February 1982, she married Julian Kim Johnson in the Oakland, California temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Syd had lived the bulk of her life in California, with the exception of a short stint at age nine when her family was in Idaho. After she and Kim married, they moved to Utah in July 2018 so they could be nearer their children and grandchildren.

Syd had an artistic eye and a creative mind, which were admired by many. She loved making homemade cards for family and friends. She also was a gourmet cook who loved to entertain. In addition to these pastimes, Syd loved hearts, her garden, music, dancing, reading Christian Romance novels, playing card games, all things Disney, and eating ice cream. Most of all, Syd loved babies and gave children mint M&Ms (as often as she could!).

Syd loved the Lord and served others--especially from her kitchen. She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints her whole life. She had served as president of the Young Women's and Relief Society auxiliaries, and had worked in the Oakland Temple for seven years.

Left to cherish her memory are Syd's husband, Kim Johnson; children, Vicki (Mark) Rasmussen, of Bear River City, Utah; Mark (Wennie) Kuebler, of Tremonton; Shelly (Jeff) Layman, of Folsom, California; and Tami (Nate) Wiest, of Salt Lake City, Utah. Also surviving Syd are her sisters, Charlette (Dennis) Bond, of Livermore, California and Corky (Jim) Mott, of Minden, Nevada; fifteen grandchildren; two dozen great-grandchildren (plus two "on the way").

Syd was preceded in death by Kim's children, Curtis Johnson and Robin J. Robbins.

Graveside services will be held at 2 P.M. on Saturday, 4 April 2020, in the Weston Idaho Cemetery.

Arrangements and publication entrusted to Myers Mortuary of Ogden.
