He served his country with courage, honor, and dignity in the United States Navy during World War II. After WWII, he joined the United States Marine Corps and served in both Vietnam and Korea retiring with over 24 years of distinguished service. Mr. Adkins was a member of Living Water Baptist Church in Longs, SC.
Survivors include his daughter Darlene Gleason of Florence, SC; three grandchildren, Tammy Skiva and husband, Raymond, Larry W. Gleason and wife, Tina, and Daniel Gleason; five great-grandchildren, Joshua Gleason and wife, Allie, Stephanie Gleason, Kitty Ayers and husband, Aaron, Susan Jordan, and Paula Osburn and husband, John; and six great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Beulah Mae "Bea" Russ Adkins in 2010. They were married 10 November 1953, Camp Lejeune, Onslow, North Carolina.
