Robert L. Mayhew, 87, of Preemption, died Monday, Feb. 22, 2016 at UnityPoint Health - Trinity Rock Island.

A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Friday at Preemption United Methodist Church. Visitation is 9:30 am until service time Friday at the church. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Milan is assisting the family. Memorials may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society or to Preemption United Methodist Church.

Robert was born May 23, 1928 in Joy, Ill., a son of David W. and Pearl E. Olson Mayhew. He married Janet L. Carlson on Oct. 17, 1948.

He had worked for Doonan Implement, Preemption for 20 years and retired in 1992. Bob had previously owned Mayhew's Standard Oil in Preemption.

Bob was a member of the Preemption United Methodist Church and the Preemption Mason Lodge 755 A.F. & A.M. He enjoyed woodworking and was very proficient at the craft.

Survivors include his wife, Janet; daughter-in-law, Deborah Mayhew, Bettendorf; granddaughters, Samantha (Aaron) Remley and Kristin (Josh) Snowbarger; and a great grandson, Cooper Snowbarger. He was preceded in death by his son, Stephen Mayhew and his brother, Stuart Mayhew.
