Obituary of Richard E. Layman

CAMDEN – A service for Richard Edward “Leprechaun” Layman, Sr. 79, will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Southside Baptist Church or Theil Meyer Pet Adoption Center.

Mr. Layman passed away on Saturday, April 4, 2020. Born on September 9, 1940 in Roanoke, Va., he was the son of the late Edward Layman and Helen Board Horton. He was a contractor and wood wright by trade. He was artistic and had a vision to craft wood into beautiful pieces. He volunteered with Habitat for Humanity.

Mr. Layman was a member of Southside Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, nature and helping others. He loved his dog “Monkey” who was always by his side.

Surviving are his wife, Linda Brown Layman; daughter, Susan Hubbard; son, Richard “Sam” Layman Jr.; brothers, Skip Cerruti and David Hill; 7 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Christeene Auker.
