Elsie Sarah Sarkozy Thompson passed away on March 28, 2020 from natural causes at the age of 101 years.

She leaves her only child, Robert Sarkozy and his partner, Elizabeth Nowers of Kittery, Maine; two grandchildren, Sarah and Stephen Sarkozy of Maine; and 2 great grandchildren, Christine Mulkern of Maine and Sean Mulkern of Seattle.

Born in Detroit, Michigan, on August 4, 1918, she was one of 4 children. Elsie was pre-deceased by her parents, Alex and Elizabeth Sarkozy, her first husband, Robert Huler, in 1956 and her second husband, Keith Thompson, in 1989. She was also pre-deceased by her sister Ethel Sarkozy, and brothers, Albert & Alex Sarkozy.

Elsie did bookkeeping for her father’s tool & die company, the S & F Tool Company, on Michigan Ave. in Detroit, leading up to and during WWII and for awhile after. She then started her own hair salon, which she ran for a number of years. Elsie resumed working as a bookkeeper for many years and had her own company, the Southfield Bookkeeping Company, from 1980 - 1992. After she closed the company she continued to do work for a number of her larger homebuilding clients, working until she was well into her 80’s. Elsie’s own home, which she lived in since 1962, was originally one of the first model homes in her development in Southfield and was built by one of her clients.

Elsie enjoyed cooking, especially Hungarian dishes, as well as needlepoint and crocheting, and her cats. She was a very generous person who loved shopping on home shopping networks and spoiling her family with unexpected gifts. She was a strong, independent woman, and was able to continue living by herself in her own home until 5 weeks before she passed away. Her family greatly appreciates the help that a number of Elsie’s close friends & neighbors provided in recent years. Ironically, she was born in 1918, the year of the last great worldwide pandemic, and has passed away in 2020, the year of the subsequent great worldwide pandemic.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date at her son’s home in Kittery, Maine with family and friends.
