New Boston, Texas--Merle Laverne Simmons, 77, of New Boston died Tuesday, February 19, 2002, in a Texarkana hospital. Mrs. Simmons was born November 10, 1924, in Holdenville, Okla. She was a former employee of Red River Army Depot and a member of Tapp Memorial United Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband, James H. Simmons of New Boston; five daughters, Sharon Ford of DeKalb, Texas, Linda Brown and Sue Zachry of New Boston, Patricia Lawing of Texarkana and Chris Donner of Simms, Texas; one sister, Frances Meyer of Longview, Texas; and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Tapp Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jeff Hastings officiating. Burial will be in Ringwood Cemetery under direction of Bates-Rolf Funeral Home. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. today at the funeral home. The family will be at the home of Linda Brown, 107 Sylvia, New Boston. Memorials may be made to Tapp Memorial United Methodist Church, P.O.
