Roger Dickie Long, age 70 of Lake Waccamaw, entered into the gates of Heaven on Sunday, April 5, 2020, at his home.

Dickie was born on June 5, 1949, in Columbus County, to the late Albert Roosevelt and Lela Mae Long. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Letha Parkton, Coy Long, Monroe Long, Agnes Todd, and Berlene McCormick.

Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8, 2020 at Chadbourn Memorial Cemetery, with Rev. Chuck Smith officiating.

A public viewing will be held one hour prior to the graveside, on Wednesday at Worthington Funeral Home in Chadbourn.

Dickie was a kindhearted and compassionate person. Throughout his life, Dickie was active in many areas. He was a faithful member of Lake Waccamaw United Methodist Church, where he was served in various roles, including Ramps & Rails. He was also a member of the American Legion. Dickie was employed at Dupont for 25 years and later employed in the HVAC industry for 15 years. Among his many accomplishments, Dickie honorably served the United States Army in Vietnam.

Mr. Long leaves behind his beloved wife, Ruth Wyatt Long, of the home; children, Angela Gail L. Smith and husband, Russell, of Whiteville, Adam Wyatt Long and wife, Genia, of Lake Waccamaw; siblings, Louise Brinson, of Whiteville, Charles Long and wife, Vendall, of Hallsboro, Myrtle Corbett and husband, Haywood, of Whiteville, Willie “Bill” Long and wife, Linda, of Lake Waccamaw, Kenneth Long and wife, Betty, of Whiteville; six grandchildren, Andrew, Anna, Gretchen, Gabrielle, Anna Alease, and RandiLee.
