French singer/songwriter, poet, actor. Known as 'le fou chantant' ('the singing fool') he is most remembered for bringing swing rhythms to French music in such compositions as the much-covered 'La Mer' (aka 'The Sea'), 'Douce France','Y'a d'la joie'. His last concert, in 1999, was a sell-out.
