Larry Dewayne Duncan was born in Enid, OK on July 10, 1948 to Ruth (Duncan) Humphrey. He was the first born of 8 children. He attended school in Enid through the 11th grade when he left school to join the Navy. He was in the Navy as a machinist mate from March 1966 until February 1968.

After leaving the service, he lived in California, where he met and married Linda Rupe on August 10, 1968. To this union, 2 daughters were born: Linda Michelle on November 24, 1969, and Marsha Annette on March 25, 1973. In February 1981, he married Darlene Walton. To this union, 2 sons were born: Christopher Austin on October 26, 1981 and Nicholas Dewayne on January 13, 1983.

Larry met his life love, Cathy Witt, in 1986 in Enid. There were no children born to this union, but Larry gained 4 additional children that he raised as his own: Christopher David, Cynthia Lyn, Ricky Dean, and Joshua Eugene. Larry and Cathy finally took the plunge and tied the knot on February 18, 1995.

The family lived in Enid until May of 1995 when they made the move to Harrison, Arkansas. Much time was spent as a family playing basketball (usually horse), camping, fishing, boating, floating the river, playing card games (spades, hearts, poker, rummy), playing pool, and bowling.

Larry and Cathy enjoyed back road driving with the windows down and the music loud. He passed his love of music on to his children. He enjoyed attending concerts often. Some of his favorite bands were Lynyrd Skynyrd, Molly Hatchet, Sawyer Brown, Triumph, Night Ranger, 38 Special, Bob Seger, and Kenny Wayne Shepherd.

Larry was an avid golfer, hunter, and fisherman. He was a huge motorcycle fan, especially of Harley Davidsons. He loved his dogs, and usually had a hunting dog. He even had a pet raccoon once. He and Cathy had a cat named Kitterly that he taught how to fetch golf tees. Jax, his most recent dog, was his best friend and hardly ever left his side.

Larry had a special relationship with his brother-in-law Gary. They were lovingly known as the “Arys”. They golfed together, both on the golf course and Tiger Woods golf on the PS2. They played darts and drank whiskey.

In June 2002, much of the family moved to Valentine. At that time, he went to work for Rosebud Casino. He worked as a slot tech and a security guard until his health forced him to quit in June 2018.

Larry was preceded in death by his stepdad, Loren Humphrey; sisters JoEllen and Anita; brother Sammy; nephew Scooter; brother-in-law Gary and sister-in-law Marybeth; and special friends Darcy Menard and Dwight Sharp.

He is survived by wife, Cathy of Valentine; mother Ruth Humphrey of Enid, OK; sisters Janice Kent, Sherry Koehn, and Tammy Humphrey, all of Enid; brother Eddie Humphrey of Oklahoma City; children Linda and Marsha Duncan of Oklahoma City; Christopher Duncan of Missouri; Nicholas Duncan of Kansas; Chris (Liz) Witt of Harrison, AR; Cindy (Stephen) Williams, Ricky (Chandra) Rhea, and Josh (Megan) Rhea, all of Valentine; grandchildren Brittany, Caleb, Elizabeth, Emilly, David (Lizz), Mickey, Wambli, Alyviah, Anithia, Grace, and Daisy; great-grandchildren Naveah, Tavion, Jeremiah, Aiden, & Bishop; and 28 nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Saturday February 29 at 10:00 am at the Valentine Berean Church. Pastor Scott McClellan will officiate. Sandoz Chapel of the Pines in Valentine was in charge of service arrangements. A memorial service in Enid, OK is pending.
