Michael Hansen Austin, age 74, passed away on November 18, 2021. Michael was born on November 15, 1947, to Wanda and Max Austin in Ogden, Utah. In 1967, Michael joined the army. He was first stationed in Stuttgart, Germany. He was also stationed in Charlotte, North Carolina, San Francisco, California, Fort Lewis, Washington, and Evansville, Indiana.

Michael fought in the Vietnam War. He was awarded two purple hearts for being wounded in combat. He was also awarded a bronze star and won multiple Army Commendation Medals. Michael was part of the Special Forces and was very proud of that. He stayed in the service for 30 years. He retired in 1998 as a First Sergeant and returned to Utah with his family.

Michael was a very loving husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother. He loved his family and worked very hard to give them the lives they deserved. He worked as a project manager for HHI and took pride in his work. He loved watching westerns, fishing, and drinking Diet Coke. You would never catch him drinking Pepsi, or as he called it, Carolina gutter water.

Michael was preceded in death by his wife, Terri. He is survived by his children Laurie Kuddes, Jason Austin, Lisa Austin, and Brianna Hardison, his granddaughters Kylie Miller, Mia Austin, and Addison Hardison, his great granddaughter Presley Miller, and his brothers Rao Austin and Gary Austin.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 27, 2021, at 11 a.m. at Lindquist's Layton Mortuary, 1867 N Fairfield Road. Friends may visit with the family from 9:15 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary prior to the services.
