Author, Traveler, Journalist. Born in Wilmington, North Carolina, Ruark began his career as a journalist at the "Washington Daily News," where his column made him a household name. In the late 40s, as he grew in notoriety, Ruark began to write fiction. His first novel was "Grenadine Etching" in 1947. In the 50s, Ruark began spending time in Africa. He then published "Horn of the Hunter: The Story of an African Hunt" and his first bestselling novel "Something of Value," later adapted to the cinema. He also made some documentary shorts for RKO Pictures about his adventures in Africa. His works also include "Uhuru," "I Didn't Know It Was Loaded," "One for the Road," "Poor no More" and "The Old Man and the Boy." Ruark died in London, but according his wishes he was buried in Spain, where he lived for a time.
