Doris Jean Payne, age 82 of Tipton, Missouri, Missouri passed away at home with her loving family at her side late Wednesday April 1, 2020. Doris was born November 25, 1937 in Berryman, Missouri to George W. and Helen H. Pennock. She was married to Enoch Eugene Payne in October 1956 and together they moved from DeSoto, Missouri to Tipton 56 years ago with their growing family. They were blessed with five children. In addition to caring for her own, Doris cared for many other children in the Tipton area as she owned and operated an in-home day care center for over 24 years. She later worked for Fasco Inc. for 6 years as a utility line worker. When she retired but wasn’t ready to quit working, she started her own small cleaning service where she cleaned homes and small businesses in the area.
Doris was a very loyal Pepsi drinker and a favorite meal for her was cottage cheese, home grown tomatoes and an ice-cold Pepsi. Some of her family are following in her footsteps in that area. Doris and Gene’s family has continued to grow through the years and she truly continued to enjoy children having an abundance of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Preceding Doris J. Payne in death were her parents George and Helen Pennock; brothers Herb, George, Jr., and Alvin Pennock; sister Shirley Gunnett.
Those surviving Doris include her husband Gene Payne of the home; her son Rick Payne and wife Pam of Tipton, son Stephen Payne and wife Rhoda of Tipton, daughter Darla Petree of Tipton, son Greg Payne and wife D’Ann of Sturgeon, and daughter Genny Clutter and husband Bobby of Tipton; 17 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and one unborn great grandchild (who will be represented by a white rose held in the loving hand of her great grandmother Doris); brothers Kenny Pennock and wife Kathy, Mike Pennock and wife Ava, and Jerry Pennock and wife Lovenna; sister Alice Smith and husband Ed; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A private immediate family service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, April 5, 2020 at the Meisenheimer Funeral Home, Tipton with burial immediately following at the Masonic Cemetery in Tipton. The service will be live-streamed for extended family and friends to join in saying their goodbyes with the hope of everyone remaining safe and healthy.
