Paula Gabler Robertson, 95, of Henrico, died March 25, 2020. She was predeceased by her husband, James Taylor Robertson Jr.; and her son, Samuel Creed Robertson. She is survived by her daughter, Sally Robertson Jacobs (Alan) of Phoenix, AZ; sons, James Taylor Robertson III (Ercel) of Fredericksburg, VA and Archer Sage Robertson (Helen) of Howardsville, VA; granddaughters, Catherine Pretlow of Denver, CO, Renee Seager of Montross, VA, Jessica Vaughn of Warsaw, VA and Anne Ervin of Charlotte, NC; great-grandchildren, Jack and Micah; Travis and Savannah; Austin and Macie; Caylin, Mady and Liam. Paula grew up in Plainfield, NJ and, upon marriage in 1947, moved to Virginia where she lived the rest of her life. As a newlywed, she lived first in Charlottesville, VA where her husband was a law student, and then in Richlands, VA where he began practicing law. Finding the omnipresent coal dust highly unpleasant there, they relocated to Montross, VA where they made their home until he died in 1993 and she moved in 1997 to Cedarfield Retirement Community in Henrico, VA. Paula was active at St. James Episcopal Church in Montross, VA where she served as President of the Women's Auxiliary and at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Oak Grove where she was organist. She was also an active supporter of the Northern Neck of Virginia Historical Society and an avid fan of the University of Virginia football and basketball teams. Always adventurous, she loved traveling and managed to visit over 65 countries spanning Asia, Africa, Europe, North America and South America. Doggedly persistent, she would tackle the WSJ daily crossword puzzle with the aim of completing it by 10:00 every morning; she did that up until the end. Her hobbies and activities included tennis, golf, knitting, reading, baking and creative cooking. Paula was an accomplished musician and everyone enjoyed her piano playing, especially in the lounge at Cedarfield. She was also a formidable bridge player, and she helped coordinate the duplicate bridge games at Cedarfield. Paula will be interred at a private graveside service. Memorial contributions may be made to Cedarfield Samaritan Fund, 2300 Cedarfield Pkwy, Richmond, VA 23233 or to St. James Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 177, Montross, VA 22520.
