JAMES WALTER DORSEY, age 89, passed away on Wednesday, April 1, 2020. Devoted husband of 63 years, to the late Priscilla Ann (nee DuBois). Beloved father of Dreux (Leslie) of Alexandria, VA, Lorraine (Paul Jackson) of Catawba Island, Gale Jensen (Patrick) of Bay Village, and Olivia (Curtis Couch) of Bay Village. Dear grandfather of David and Danielle Dorsey, Lauren and Alexandra Jensen, and step-grandfather of Jim, Tim, Lisa, and Linda. Brother of Janet Murray (Dave, deceased), Jay, deceased (Carol), Jean McConville (Eugene), Joyce Gill (Brendan), Jon (Joan, deceased), Jerry (JoAnn, deceased), Jeff (Nancy), and Joe (Christine). Dear uncle of many.
Born November 13, 1930 in Cleveland, the eldest child of the late Walter A. and Helen H. (nee Dorenkott) Dorsey. A graduate of Saint Ignatius High School, earned dual bachelor’s degrees from the Cleveland Institute of Music in 1954 and from Western Reserve University in 1956, later earning a master’s degree from Western Reserve University in 1966. Served in the U.S. Army as Manager of the Seventh Army Symphony Orchestra, stationed in Germany while accompanied by his wife. Featured in a Stars and Stripes article as having the best job in the Army. Taught music theory at the Cleveland Music School Settlement and was a music teacher and choir director at Carl F. Shuler Junior High School, in Cleveland, retiring in 1987. A 61-year resident of Bay Village. Spent his retirement as an avid tennis player.
Due to the coronavirus concerns, a funeral Mass and burial at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to a charity of choice.
