Charlotte M. McDaniel, of Columbia, Mississippi, passed away at her home on Tuesday, April 1, 2020 at the age of 97. Born in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, she received her pilots license at the age of 16 and flew reconnaissance missions for the Civil Air Patrol in Wisconsin during WWII. She served our country during WWII by joining the Army Air Corps, working as a cryptographer and an air controller at Mitchell Field, Long Island, NY. It was there that she witnessed the return of captured American pilots as they convalesced after their release. Mrs. McDaniel has been a resident of Columbia since 1978 and co-owned Studio One art studio in Columbia. She will be remembered for her artistic talents, her intelligence, and her incredible sense of humor. She was preceded in death by her parents, six siblings and her husband, CDR Charles B. McDaniel, U. S. Navy, Retired. Mrs. McDaniel is survived by two daughters, Suzanne Charlton and Linda DuPaul; two granddaughters, Shannon Hennes and her husband Scotty and Caroline Charlton; three great-grandchildren, Autumn Hennes, Kole Hennes and Liam Hollington. There will be no local services for Mrs. McDaniel. She will be sent to San Diego, California for services and burial with her husband in Miramar National cemetery.
