Jack attended local area public schools including Anderson High School where he graduated in 1954. After high school, Jack studied industrial arts at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana where he graduated in 1958. After college, he worked a series of local area service sector jobs including hardware stores and home appliance stores until he found employment at the Delco Remy division of General Motors in 1959. He also served in the US Army Reserves and Indiana National Guard. At Delco Remy, he began work in the laboratory testing department. However, Jack spent most of his working life as a tool and die maker in Plant 11. His father, Thomas N. York, was also a tool and die maker for Delco Remy. Jack retired from General Motors in 1999. In 1961, Jack married Susan House and the couple had two sons including Michael Thomas York and Jack Raymond York. The couple was divorced in 1976. Besides working, Jack enjoyed automobile racing, fishing and square dancing. He is survived by his son, Jack Raymond York, his beloved friend, Tina Loy, and ex-wife, Susan H. York.
