A native of Christian County, he was born July 29, 1939, the son of the late Birch Clarence Long Jr. and Agnes Faye Green Long.
He served in the United States Navy and then went on to teach history in the Cedar Rapids, Iowa, school district for many years. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Hopkinsville.
He is survived by his sister, Linda (J.E.) Edwards, Hopkinsville; and his aunt, Nell Green, Hopkinsville.
