Danny Stanford Mathis, age 74, passed from this life on March 31, 2020 surrounded by his family in Durant, Oklahoma. Danny was born to Calvin Mathis and Ruth Jane (Smith) Mathis on August 9, 1945 in Frogville, Oklahoma.

Danny was born and raised in the Hugo/Grant area. He married Mary (Owens) Mathis on July 26, 1964 at the First Baptist Church in Antlers, Oklahoma. Danny worked as a firefighter and paramedic for twenty-four years before retiring from the City of Hugo. Danny was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Hugo Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and playing with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also had a passion for working on old cars. Above all else he loved to spend time with his family.

Danny is preceded in death by his parents: Calvin and Ruth Mathis; sisters: Sue Weehunt, and Reba Mathis; and brother: Stanley Mathis.

Danny is survived by his loving wife: Mary (Owens) Mathis of the home; sons: Rocky Mathis and wife Karin of Ardmore, Oklahoma; and Raymond Mathis of Coweta, Oklahoma; daughter: Shawnda Butler and husband Eddie of Idabel, Oklahoma; brother: Jerry Mathis of Minnesota; and sister: Jan Mathis of the home; 5 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; along with many other children and grandchildren that he loved as his own.

A graveside service will be held for Danny on April 2, 2020 4:00pm at Darwin Cemetery in Darwin, Oklahoma.
