Jessie Lee Givens “Doctor JG”,
Son of the late Ella Mae Kirkpatrick Simpson and the late Jessie Givens of Fort Mill, South Carolina was born March 10, 1947 in York County. He transitioned from his earthly tabernacle to the Promise Land on March 27, 2020 at home with his soulmate of 42 years Mary Moss by his side.
Mr. Givens was born and raised in Pineville, North Carolina in the Sterling Community. He attended China Grove AME Zion Church for many years. He was a graduate of South Mecklenburg High School with the class of 1965. Shortly after graduating, he married the late Ada Mae Guy and through their union four children were born.
In 2005, Jessie entered a fight for his life as he battled cancer. He was victorious countless times as he was in and out of hospitals, doctor’s offices and infusion centers. He continuously bounced back from his battle and fought his way to a job he loved to be surrounded by people he loved. He kept the faith and fought an amazing fight.
Jessie was employed by Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Incorporated for 45 years. He was a supervisor who thoroughly enjoyed his job. So much so, when the plant moved from Donald Ross Road in Charlotte to Concord, NC; Jessie traveled to Concord every day. He believed in keeping his line running smoothly and lending a hand to make it happen. He valued his job so much, he would not retire. Retirement was not in his genes!
Doctor JG was a cool, shy, caring, humble, loving, and very stylish gentleman who lived a full life! He did everything he desired to do. He loved fishing, traveling, playing his guitar, song writing, playing cards, listening to music and sweepstakes opportunities. He had an infectious
smile and a fetish for wearing hats. Adventurous as he was, he believed he missed his calling to be a boxer and a gourmet chef since he loved boxing and cooking too. Doctor JG positively impacted and saw the inner beauty in people. Jessie wanted everybody to get along and be happy.
Upon the passing of Jessie’s mother, his aunt the late Mattie Bell Frederick raised him and his siblings as her children. He is preceded in death by his parents, a daughter; NaTanya Jackson “Pee Wee”, two sisters; Dorothy Kirkpatrick Stewart and Bessie Mae Adams; three brothers, Albert Frederick, Jr, Willie Lee Frederick, and Mack Donald Erwin.
Jessie Lee Givens leaves to cherish his fond memories, his loving spouse, Mary Moss; sons, Jessie Leon Guy (Teresa), Terry Givens, Torry Givens, Antione Jackson(Pam), and Jeff Moss (Tonya); daughters, Darlene Denise Guy and Natasha Jackson Hayes (Seneca); one brother, Turner Simpson, Sr.; one sister, Annie Mae Wallace; 15 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren
