Mr. Gregory H. Bruce was born in Harlem, New York City on October 19, 1950 to the late George T. Bruce and Dorothy B. Burgess. He transitioned from this life on Mach 22, 2020.
Greg Bruce, an artist and educator, graduated from Roosevelt High School in Long Island NY and attended Buffalo University and art school at LeMoyne College and Syracuse University.
As an Artist and Educator, Greg’s mission was to use art to develop environmental awareness. During 1981-82, he collaborated with the New York State Division for Youth by developing a project to share local nature through art in the city. His art work has been displayed at The Everson Museum, Syracuse, NY; Smithsonian Institute, Washington, DC; Anniston Museum, Anniston, AL; Costa Rica, Central America; Guilford County Health and Human Services; Sciworks, Winston Salem, NC and Cultural Arts Center, Greensboro, NC are among the few museums, galleries and public places that have exhibited his work.
Greg summarized his work by saying “My paintings portray a new harmony, a reconciliation between humans and the environment, people caring for ‘forest’ and healing the wounds brought on by modern technology.”
He leaves to mourn his sister, Wanda Morehead (Kermit), half-brother, Jonathan Bruce (Jodi), uncles; Marotha Pasha, Ronald Burgess (Gale), George Burgess (Michelle), aunts; Sandra Burgess and Colette Burgess, nieces; Celeste Rettig- Morehead (Bobby), Aliya Morehead (Derrick), nephews; Dean and Leo Rettig and Derrick Hall Jr.; and a host of cousins and friends.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
