Ex-Senator F. M. Bixby Dead
Once Prominent in Local Politics as an Anti-Tammany Democrat

Francis M. Bixby, once prominent in local politics as an anti-Tammany Democrat, died on Saturday [4 March] at his home, No. 246 West 108th-St. He was born in Deposit, Delaware County, on December 20, 1829 [c/b 1828], and came to this city in his youth.

He was in the Custom House for several years, and later was in the bonded and general order business of this port. In 1875 he was elected State Senator as an anti-Tammany Democrat, and was reelected State Senator in 1879. He organized the James O’Brien anti-Tammany organization, which developed its greatest strength in the campaign of Mayor Strong.

He leaves a widow, a son, Francis M. Bixby, Jr., and a daughter, Mrs. Howard Durant.
