Carol A. Powell, age 77, of Pittsfield, IL passed away Monday, March 30, 2020 at Eastside Health & Rehabilitation Center in Pittsfield, IL. She was born on October 18, 1942 in Pittsfield, IL to Calvin and Zona Bailey Norton. She married John Powell on December 1, 1990 in Milton, IL, and he survives.

Carol graduated from Calhoun High School then went on to get her CNA certificate. She worked at various places over the years including Clarkston Court also known as Eastside Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, JDC, Barton Stone, the OB Department at Illini Community Hospital, and the Pike County Health Department. She retired in 2008 and went on to do in-home care. Carol took very good care of her patients and always went above and beyond. She genuinely loved caring for others. Carol was of the Lutheran faith and was a past member of the Jacksonville Moose Lodge 865 Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed travelling all over to play Bingo, and going to the Jacksonville Speedway every Friday night where she watched her son, Terry, and grandson, Trent, race. She loved fishing, camping, and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Nascar fan, as well as a huge Elvis Presley fan. Carol liked music, and taught herself to play the harmonica. She also did skit performances at nursing homes for the residents. Carol was a very hardworking, giving, funny, and caring woman who loved her family very much.

She is survived by her mother, Zona Peek; her husband of 29 years, John Powell; two sons, Terry (Becky) Brannan of Pearl, IL and Ronell (DeeDee) Brannan of South Roxana, IL; three grandchildren, Tasha (Richard) Kirk of Griggsville, IL, Trent (Melissa) Brannan of Pittsfield, IL, and Travis (Courtney) Brannan of Bloomingdale, GA; seven great grandchildren, Ryan Tunget, Lainey Kirk, Lukas Kirk, Westin Buss, Kolt Brannan, Waylon Kirk, and Tessa Brannan; and three sisters, Pamela Baxter of Pittsfield, IL, Marcine (Carlos) Lara of Pittsfield, IL, and Anita (Mike) Lovell of Colchester, IL.

She was preceded in death by her father, Calvin Norton; her stepfather, Earl Peek; and her brother, Dennis Norton.

Funeral services will be held privately and interment will be at Pittsfield West Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to be made to Eastside Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center Activity Fund or Donor’s Choice. Online condolences may be left to the family at www.nieburfh.com.
