Morgan Kirby Jones, commonly known as Coach or Mr. Jones, 67, of Pasco, Washington, passed away peacefully in the night, on January 11, 2015, after a courageous battle with septic shock.
Kirby was born February 27, 1947, to Thomas Morgan Jones and Doris Mae Starkebaum, He was the loving husband to Luci (Jenks) Jones, brother to Thomas Jones (preceded in death), Tana Dugan, Laurel Tarbert (Walt), Ruth Greene (preceded in death) and Gib Taylor (Toni).
Kirby was the father to 12 children, whom he loved tremendously: Joseph Jones, Joshua Jones (Holly), Heather Olson (Troy), Daniel Jones (Wendy), Michael Jones (Stefanie) Austin Jones, Lesli Groves (Nate), Gregory Jenks (Berenice), Angela Schulthies (Wade), Ginger Hudson (Joshua), Steven Jenks (Sabrina) and Carmen Clarke (Josh). He and Luci have 38 precious grandchildren.
Kirby was the 4th child and second son born of Morgan and Doris Jones. He spent his formative years moving all over the Inland Northwest, and developed a great love for his country, and a yearning for adventure. He was a gifted athlete and developed lifelong bosom buddies, while attending Lewis and Clark High School in Spokane, Washington.
Kirby’s life was filled with service to others. He was a gifted teacher who spent over 35 years teaching in the public school system. He inspired his students with his kindness and sense of humor, and mentored many as their wrestling, football, basketball, track and/or bowling “coach”. Always ready with a joke, a smile, a song, and a compliment, he also had some killer dance skills, and loved to ´cut a rug´ with his sweetheart, and his kids and grandkids. Kirby was truly loved by all who were blessed to meet and know this absolute treasure of a man.
In the later years of his life, he was able to fulfill many of his lifelong dreams, traveling from the towers of the Great Wall of China to the heights of Machu Picchu, Peru. Kirby was thrilled to spend his final days in the service of the God he loved and emulated, with his sweet companion, Luci, as a Records Preservation missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Huancayo, Peru. Kirby found the greatest joy serving his fellow man. He loved his family fiercely and was always taking care of everyone before ever thinking of himself. He truly was a giant in every way and his loss will be felt for years to come. We find peace in knowing that we will one day be reunited with him, and will be together for all eternity.
