LAURA'S OBITUARY
Memorial services for Laura Ann Lively Martin, 95, of Livingston, Texas, will be held Saturday, November 16, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the Escapees Care Center in Livingston, Texas.

Mrs. Martin was born May, 18, 1924 in Irving, Texas to parents, Roy Lively and Laura Belle (Randolph) Lively, and passed away November 5, 2019 in Livingston, Texas.

She is survived by her sons, John Randolph “Randy” Martin and wife, Elizabeth of Montgomery, Texas, and Brian Gene Martin of Livingston, Texas; and nieces, Marylin Sharp of Houston, Texas, and Ruth Cain of Canyon Lake, Texas; along with numerous other relatives and friends.

Laura Ann was a descendent of two pioneer families. Her grandfather, Charles A. Lively, was the first Postmaster of Irving, Texas. A high school and a street are named for the Lively families. The Randolph family was of Virginia and Huntsville, Texas. C. A. Randolph owned the first jewelry store and the first car in Huntsville.

Laura Ann moved to Huntsville, Texas and attended Demonstration School, Huntsville High School and graduated from Livingston High School where she was a “yell leader." She also attended TSCW, SHSU and graduated from Houston University as a laboratory and x-ray technician. Her first job was with Dr. Ray Black in Huntsville, Texas and then to Oakdale, Louisiana. During World War II she did research at Ft. Louis Army Post in Washington, Tacoma Washington General Hospital, Decatur Alabama Hospital, Bay City Hospital and Dr. Flowers Hospital. She was also the first lab and x-ray technician at Livingston Memorial Hospital. Laura Ann retired as a Recording Agent for Martin Insurance Agency in Livingston, Texas.

In her spare time, she served as a Cub Scout Leader for six years for her two sons. Laura Ann was an active and long-time member of Central Baptist Church. She was the Sunday school teacher in the Junior Department, Superintendent of the Junior Department and Class President of the Joy Sunday School.

She also loved her community and served in many capacities around town. Laura Ann was the City of Livingston and Polk County Civil Defense Director (and was supported by a great working staff), Safety Chairman of the Pilot Club of Livingston and President of the Pilot Club of Livingston for 20 plus years. She was extremely honored to be the first woman to be named Polk Countian of the Year 1976 (Instead of Mom of the Year) and to serve on the Livingston Memorial Hospital Board. She was also a Charter Member of Robert Rankin Chapter of Daughters of American Revolution, American Red Cross Disaster Chairman (1960 to 1985) and was asked by Col. Homer Harrison to serve as the Civil Defense Director of Texas.
