This morning our brother, John Richard Lockhart, was called home. He was at home surounded by his family and all the Angels God could spare, we are sure.

John Lockhart was a true gentleman Texan. John’s career in music made him a hugely influential, sought-after session guitarist, songwriter, and bandmate. A highly respected musician and guitarist in Austin and beyond for over 30 years, his smile, grace, and open heart brought him a countless admirers, fans, and loyal lifelong friends.

John was also an award-winning member of the Austin Title team, and loved his family, dogs, and even a round of golf when he could find the time. John was most proud of his service to God and Gateway Church in Austin, where he played in the church band. Serving. Sharing the spirit he embodied.

John formed Suede Austin in late 2006 with drummer Chris Skiles on long drives home from touring Texas on weekends. They brought in legendary bassist Danny Swinney, Ace vocalist and guitarist Brian Andrew Lee and the inimitable Robert Wagner to front the band. From Sunday nights in the cold in front of 10 people, to Radio City Music Hall and sold-out shows for 12 years and counting, Suede has been a band of brothers. And Suede vows to keep the music alive. For John. Just as he instructed us, still our leader until the end.

John played in many bands here, on this plane. He plays astride a Golden Chariot tonight.

RIP JL.
