US Soldier killed at the Battle of the Little Big Horn. Moonie enlisted into the US Army on March 18, 1875, in Boston, MA. He was described as 5'6", hazel eyes, dark hair with a fair complexion. His civilian occupation was clerk. On July 1, 1875, Moonie was assigned to Company E, 7th US Cavalry Regiment. Moonie was assigned as company bugler. At the Battle of the Little Bighorn, Company E was assigned to LTC George A Custer's battalion. Moonie was killed during the battle. His body was not identified. It was likely Moonie's unidentified remains were buried where they had been found. In 1881, all known battlefield burials were moved to a mass grave on top of Last Stand Hill.
