Officer Brownelle M. Barrett-Lee was born to the late Preston R. Lee, Jr. and Brownitta Bailey Lee. Officer Brownelle departed her life serving the community that she loved. Brownelle worked in her family’s business, Lee’s Market on 6th and Kerlin Street and 6th and Edgmont Avenue in Chester along with her siblings. Brownelle later worked for several home health agencies including employment at Elwyn Inc. working with the hearing impaired, which was her hidden talent. n May,1999, Brownelle made her family proud by following her lifelong dream of becoming a Chester Police Officer where she worked for twenty-two years until her death. Brownelle received Four Commendations for Service above and beyond the call of duty and is the most Highly Decorated Female Officer in the department. During one incident, Brownelle was struck and ran over by a guy determined not be apprehended with two fellow officers. Brownelle took her job as a Mother and Nurturer to heart earning her the affectionate nickname of ”Momma Bear” as she was willing to help anyone in need. She enjoyed watching the Food Network as well as her phone games. She loved to cook for family and friends or anyone who wanted to eat. This love came early while working in her parents catering company. Brownelle loved spending time and traveling with her family. She was eager to support community based programs one such as Johnie Slowe’s gym in Trainer, PA where the needs of the youth were met. Family and the community meant the world to her. Brownelle was a proud and devoted Mother of 5 children, Donald Lee, Markell Lee, Monet Lee, Mason Lee and Cionne Nickerson. In addition to her children, she is survived by her brothers Jequell Bailey, Clifford Sellers, Anthony Sellers, Robert West, Juan Lee, Steffon Lee, Dejohn Lee and Preston Lee, 3rd. and her sisters Jarvella Barrett and Jazzmine Lee. A host of aunts, uncles, cousins, a special cousin, Jametta Alston her Police Department family and a special friend, Troy Nickerson.
