Sinthia was a daughter of John and Mary Byrd Owen. She was a twin to her brother, Byrd Owen who died in 1879 and is buried at the San Marcos City Cemetery in Hays County, Texas. She married Banyan Payne in Morgan County, Alabama sometime prior to 1830 when Banyan and his brother Wiley and their wives, Sinthia and Sarah (who were sisters) moved to newly opened lands in Tipton County, Tennessee. Wiley and his wife Sarah had three sons when they moved to the area and in a few short years they had three more sons, but Banyan and Sinthia would not have children. Sinthia most probably died as a result of childbirth complications, or possibly from a fever sometime around 1834. She is mentioned as having been married to Banyan Payne in her father's will (John Owen) which was written in 1845 at Lafayette County, Mississippi.
