John A. Thomsen, 84, of Wyoming, passed away Friday, March 27, 2020, at the Clarence Nursing Home in Clarence, surrounded by his family.

Graveside services will be held at a later date at Wyoming Cemetery, Wyoming, Iowa. Dawson Funeral Services of Wyoming is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Clarence Nursing Home or Above and Beyond Hospice in his memory.

John Allison Thomsen was born June 3, 1935, in Cedar Rapids the son of Meinhardt and Alice (Ireland) Thomsen. He graduated from Wyoming Public High School in 1953. He graduated with a Business Degree from Cedar Rapids Business College. He married Catherine Morning on September 6, 1959. He was a lifelong farmer in the Wyoming area. He also drove a truck for Wright Grain of Olin for many years. He was a former Deacon for the United Presbyterian Church in Wyoming. In his earlier years, he enjoyed golfing and playing baseball. He enjoyed family vacations at Northland Lodge on Leach Lake in Minnesota. For the past nine years, he enjoyed his home at the Clarence Nursing Home.

Surviving are one daughter, Rita (Lynn) Balichek of Oxford Junction; one son, Ray (Natta) Thomsen of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Alma Rohwedder and one brother, Melvin Thomsen.
