It is known that Clayton was born after his sister, Fannie, who was born 27 Nov 1845 in Fort Scott KS. Some say it was 1847 in Indian Territory, KS. Clayton was commissioned 7 Mar 1867 as a 2nd Lieut. at Newport KY and like his father made the Army a career. He was a Captain in Co. K and also in Co. G., 10th Regiment, U. S. Infantry. Clayton married 5 Oct 1875 in Indianapolis IN, Ida E. DODD who died 21 Sep 1915 at Fort Sam Houston TX. They possibly had four children not researched but it is known that two daughters married Army officers, one of whom, General Daniel VAN VOORHIS, had a son, age 18, who died on Corregidor in WWII.

roysboy #49072654 has indicated that the grave is in the Fort Sill Post (Old Post) Cemetery, Section V, Site 1445. This is different than the Fort Sill National Cem.
