69, passed away on Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at his residence in Montgomery, AL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Lucy Nell Hopper of Orange, Texas.
Survivors include his wife of 18 years, Betty Hopper;
daughter, Heidi McCall (Marc);
sister, Marilyn (A.C.);
granddaughter, Casey Ryals ;
two great grandchildren
and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Mr. Hopper graduated from Sam Houston University in Huntsville, TX in 1966 with a degree in Criminal Justice.
He spent 40 years in the field of Corrections in Texas, Georgia, and Alabama from 1963to 2003. After retirement, he was active in the Heritage Club of First United Methodist, Sunday School and a volunteer tutor teaching adults to read through the Central Alabama Laubach Literacy Council.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Karl Stegall Scholarship Fund, First United Methodist Church, 2416 West Cloverdale Park, Montgomery, AL 36106 or the Central Alabama Laubach Literacy Council, 2048W. Fairview Ave, Montgomery, AL 36108. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, May 1st at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church.
