Age 87, passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2020.

He was born March 31, 1932 in Cypress, AL, the son of Willie Winston and Eleanor (Flanigan) Bell.

On November 19, 1951, he married Katie Birden and she survives.

Melvin served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He retired from Ford Motor Company, Sheldon Road plant.

Melvin loved listening to the blues and going to the horse races.

In addition to his loving wife of 67 years, survivors include: four children, Lynn Bell, Elvis Bell, Melvin Bell and Steven (Brenda) Bell; a special granddaughter Nicole Bell; two grandchildren, Lakeisha Bell and Serena Bell; great granddaughter Maliyah; one brother Abe Bell; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and family friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and ten siblings.

The funeral service will be held 11 am Tuesday, March 31, 2020 at Greater Faith Transition, 670 Onandaga, Ypsilanti where the family hour will be from 10 am until time of service. Pastor Robert Ford will officiate. Burial will follow in Union-Udell Cemetery.
