Mr. Johnathan James Ferguson, age 69 (better known as Johnny, John or Johnny Guy), left the earth to walk with his Heavenly Father on February 6, 2012 at Gateway Rehabilitation Center in Lenoir. Mr. Ferguson was briefly sick. He was born in Caldwell County on June 29, 1942 to Mildred Fox Ferguson of Lenoir and the late Benjamin Ferguson. Mr. Ferguson was a very warm and gentle person, always helping someone in any way that he could. He was first a son, a brother a husband, a wonderful father, an uncle and a grandfather with great proving skills and a smile that would warm everyone's heart. He dedicated his life in the health field as an EMT and medical assistant for Caldwell Memorial Hospital, Caldwell Ambulance Services, Broughton Hospital and Gateway Nursing Facility before his retirement. He attended Freeman High and received certificates from Caldwell Community College. He was a Boy Scout of America Master Troop Leader and played semi-pro football for Caldwell County Bulldogs. In addition to his father, Mr. Ferguson was preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Ferguson, five brothers in laws and five sisters in laws.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Connie Norwood Ferguson of the Home; his children and their spouses, Donna N. Patterson, husband Benny, of Lenoir, Paul A. Norwood of Taylorsville, Darryl S. Ferguson of the Home, Dawn Ferguson Bonilla, husband Tony, of Winston Salem, Wesley T. Ferguson of Lenoir, and Lesley J. Ferguson of the Home; two sisters and a brother in law, Jessie F. Johnson of the Bronx, NY and Marlene and Calvin Dula of Lenoir; two brothers and sisters in law, Benjamin and Holly Ferguson of the St. Thomas, Virgin Islands and Claude and Sharon Ferguson of California; his grandchildren, Desmond Z. Ferguson, Anthony Bonilla, Antoinette Bonilla, Lakriesha Bonilla, Abias Bonilla and Reginald Bonilla; he is also survived by numerous other relatives.

A celebration of John?s life will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at the Mt. Pilgram Baptist Church at 3:00 PM with Reverend James Perkins officiating. Interment will follow the service at Blue Ridge Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
