Leon Wilson closed the book on his life Saturday, June 24, 2017, four days short of his 94th birthday. The oldest of ten children, he was born in a log cabin on Roe Mesa and graduated from Santa Fe High School Other than a brief wartime stint in San Diego, he lived in New Mexico his entire life, retiring from Sandia National Labs as an engineer. Leon was a force of nature with a keen intelligence focused on science, history, mechanics and his Scottish heritage. He held a firm belief in the power to achieve anything he set out to accomplish.
He is survived by his wife of 75 years, Ramona Mapes Wilson until her death on July 11, 2017; one daughter; one son; and their families, all of Albuquerque. He is also remembered by many Wilsons in Santa Fe and beyond. He was the father of three; brother of nine; grandfather of five; great grandfather of eight; and uncle to a multitude. He was a hard-working man who lived life on his own terms. He will be missed by all who knew him well.
