Written by Dr. Jeffrey Isidore Rubin: Irving Charles Rubin was born on 29 May 1912 in New York City. He attended college at NYU and earned Bachelors and Masters degrees in economics HIs father Isidore Rubin died in 1936 and Irving took over the management of his father's small luncheonette business which was across the street from the NYU campus. Irving married Blanche Goodman Cantor in 1937. They had two children, Jeffrey Isidore Rubin in 1940 and Ruthie Rubin in 1944.
Irving remained in the restaurant business in New York City until 1950 when he moved to Florida. He sold out his interests in several restaurants in NYC in 1951 and became a partner in Wolfie's restaurant on Lincoln Road and Collins Avenue in Miami Beach, Florida. He was later a partner in Pumpernics at 6700 Collins Avenue, the Pub restaurants on Coral Way in Coral Gables, and the Roney Plaza and Newport hotels in Miami Beach, Florida.
Irving was an active supporter of civil rights in the United States and a significant contributor to the State of Israel for which he received many awards. He died in 1978 in Dade County, Florida.
