Paula was an extraordinary person.

Pancreatic cancer unexpectedly and all too quickly took the life of Paula Levens Hotujac on March 17, 2010. She was born to Rita Kowalczyk and Albert Levens, Jr. on January 24, 1957, in Kansas City, MO. Paula attended Queen of the Holy Rosary (now John Paul II) and St. Agnes Elementary schools, participated in Girl Scouts - as a Brownie through Seniors, softball, swim team, and many family vacations. She enjoyed reading, sewing, and needlepoint. She graduated from St. Teresa Academy in 1974; attended Rockhurst College, and JCCC. Before graduating from Washburn University in Topeka, KS, in 1979 with a B.A. in Music, and minors in business, languages, and sociology, she spent a summer back- backing through Europe. She was a member of Alpha Phi and Sigma Alpha Iota. Upon graduation, Paula became employed in the financial sector, working at Weinrich, Zitzman & Whitehead, UBS/Paine Webber/Kidder, Peabody/First Union Securities/Everen Securities/Wachovia Securities, Harris Financial Services, and Edward Jones. She worked her way up from wire operator and receptionist to VP/Branch Operations manager because of her intelligence and ability to work well with others. Her achievements included receiving Employee of the Year Award and Recognition Awards from First Union Securities, Customer Service Excellence Award from Kidder, Peabody & Co., and serving as a past treasurer of the Securities Operations Association of Kansas City. In 1988, she married Robert Hotujac, and their union produced a son, Daniel J. Hotujac. Daniel was her pride and joy. She was his Cub Scout leader, and provided many opportunities for Daniel. She was a dedicated daughter, wife, sister, and mother. Paula will be best remembered for her nurturing and encouragement of her son's love of baseball. She was his cheerleader, and assisted his various teams (Indians, Dragons, Cougars, Legends) with score- keeping, stats, fund-raising, and team management, as well as road-trip merriment. His dreams and goals, were her dreams and goals. The family would like to thank the countless friends who offered their support and assistance in numerous ways during this difficult time, and the volunteers and staff at the Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care Center. Paula is preceded in death by her father, Albert J. Levens, paternal grandparents Cornelia and Albert Levens, maternal grandparents Josephine and Peter Kowalczyk, and step-father James Owens. Survivors include her son, Daniel Hotujac, mother, Rita J. Levens, sister, Monica Levens, godfather Uncle Peter and Beverly Kowalczyk, and former husband, Robert Hotujac. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 22, at Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 71st and Metcalf, Overland Park, KS. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Kansas City, MO. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Sunday, March 21, at McGilley & Hoge Chapel, 8024 Santa Fe Drive, Overland Park, KS, 66204. In lieu of flowers, contributions for Paula's family may be made c/o McGilley & Hoge Chapel. (Arrangements: McGilley & Hoge Chapel, 913-642-3565.)
