OBIT- 1922 source unknown
Last Friday morning occurred the death of Carl Gruennert Jr, residing on a farm four miles southeast of Jefferson in the town of Hebron. He was well known in Jefferson, living nearly all of his lifetime in this vicinity and repeatedly holding offices in his town and school district.
Mr Gruennert was possessed of a cheerful disposition, he was endowed with a powerful physique and in that frame also dwelt a big heart; he was ever ready to serve his fellow man. Death came upon him quite unexpectedly. Early Friday morning when he arose to look after the fire he suffered a stroke of paralysis which repeated itself on the following day making him entirely helpless. His children were called to his bedside and two days later his immortal soul left the mortal body. He attained an age of 56 years 6 months and 16 days.
The deceased was born in Germany on 30 May 1864, and when three years old came to America with his parents. In the year 1888 he was united in holy wedlock with Emma Samuelson and this union was blessed with four children. In 1901 his wife died. Three years later Mr Gruennert entered upon a second marriage with Johanna Riess; two children were born to them.
The departed is mourned by his wife and six children; Mrs Christian Koch, Town Hebron, Carl Gruennert, Town of Sumner, Mrs Henry Berg and Irwin Gruennert, both of the town of Koshkonong, John and Elizabeth Gruennert. Furthermore he leaves one step-daughter, Mrs Claude Altwies of Farmington and eleven grandchildren. An aged father, Carl Gruennert Sr, of Helenville, one sister Mr Wm. Reap, of Fort Atkinson and one brother, August Gruennert, of Helenville survive him. Funeral services were held last Monday afternoon at St Peter's Church in Helenville, the Rev Edward Fredrich officiating. The mortal remains were conveyed to their final resting place in the Christberg cemetery between Jefferson and Helenville.
