CUNNINGHAM, Janice E. age 91, of Swartz Creek. After spending much time over her last few weeks planning for and arranging for her final family reunion and its expansive banquet, Janice said goodbye to her family as only she could, "Now there's the door, walk through it." Janice died peacefully surrounded by loved ones on March 13, 2018 at the Durand Senior Care and Rehab Center after spending the last five years of her life at Fostrian Nursing Home in Flushing. She died with much anticipation of seeing the love of her life, her late husband James, a child she lost at childbirth and many friends and relatives who had preceded her to the reunion she had so carefully planned. Planning, she said, was the most important thing for any successful event. Janice said she had spent a lifetime planning for and was ready for her final journey home to be reunited with those she loved. Janice will be remembered fondly by those who knew her for her unending love, ability to forgive, ability to tell remarkable stories, to dispense wisdom, make those around her happier, and for the understanding that the biggest part of any job or journey in life is just getting started. The details she often said, would take care of themselves. Janice was born on April 26, 1921 in Harrison, Mich. to Lavern and Della Dorothy Woodin (Roe), the fifth of eight children. After graduating from Harrison High School in 1944, she moved to Sandusky, Ohio where she met and married James L. Cunningham on May 26,1946. James preceded her in death in 2004.
Janice and the rest of the family ask that you remember her by telling stories, laughing, hugging one another, and most of all, by taking a moment to do something unexpectedly kind for someone else. Love and kindness always win, Janice said often.
