Judy Ellen (Boyce) Lowery
October 24, 1945 - March 17, 2020

Corriganville, MD – Judy Ellen (Boyce) Lowery, 74, of Corriganville, MD, passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2020, UPMC Western Maryland.

Born October 24, 1945, in Mount Savage, MD, Mrs. Lowery was the daughter of the late William Earl Boyce and Wanda Elaine (Smith) Boyce.

Judy is survived by her husband of over 55 years: Twain Lowery, Corriganville, MD; her sons: Kevin, and wife, Amy, Kankakee, IL; Bradley, and his wife, Paula, Ellerslie, MD; her brother: Robert Boyce and wife, Linda, LaVale, MD; her sister: Carol Knieriem, Corriganville, MD; and four grandchildren: Rebecca Routson, and husband, Damon; Seth Lowery; Steven Lowery and special friend, Emily Dorsey; Lucas Lowery, to whom she was very blessed and very active with all.

A graduate of Mount Savage High School, Class of 1963, Judy was Salutatorian of the class as well as music queen and cheerleader. She lived in Mount Savage for her early childhood then resided in the Corriganville area the remainder of her life. Judy was locally well-known as a pianist, organist, vocalist, and choir director.
She taught piano and organ privately for over 40 years, having an average of 15-20 students for much of that time. Several of her former students went on to become accomplished musicians, both personally and professionally.
Judy served as a pianist, organist, and choir director at a number of local churches, especially Bethel Church of the Nazarene in Cumberland, First Wesleyan Church in Cresaptown, and Ellerslie United Methodist Church. For several years, she was also the music director at Wesleyan Christian Academy in Cresaptown. Over the years, she led numerous adult, teen, and children’s choirs, and she was the musical director for various productions.

For over 10 years, Judy was the pianist and alto singer for the Seekers Quartet, and she later sang and played for her own family’s traveling gospel group. She played a key role in the musical development of her children and grandchildren, a legacy that is still continuing.

Judy enjoyed traveling and camping. She and her husband, Twain, were seasonal campers at Friendship Village Campground in Bedford, and were former members of the Mount Davis Maple Leaf Campers in Meyersdale. Judy loved attending her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting and music events.
In April 2000, she was diagnosed as having multiple myeloma, and she continued this battle to the very end. Thanks to the stellar work of the doctors, nurses, and staff of Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV, the support of her family and friends, and the courage she drew from her faith in God, the cancer itself is not what ended her life.
Quite simply, 20 years of chemotherapy and the numerous side effects and related health issues she fought through took their toll on her body, and she passed on peacefully on the evening of March 17, 2020.

Judy was deeply devoted to God, her husband, her family, and her friends. She constantly expressed her appreciation for the years of prayer, encouragement, love, and friendship that she had been given, and her family is equally appreciative to all those who have been a support to her over the years, especially during these final years as she waged her battle against cancer.

Due to the current health regulation, services will be held privately. A Celebration of Judy’s life will be held at a later date. Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.

Memorial donations may be made in Judy’s name to the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society, 100 Painters Mill Road, Suite #400, Owings Mills, MD 21117; or the Bethel Church of the Nazarene, 11720 Valley Road, NE, Cumberland, MD 21502.
