On March 25th, 2020, Jesse Clayton Clark Jr, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away at the age of 96, in Chico.
Jesse was born on January 14th, 1924, in Choccolocco, Alabama to Jesse Clayton senior and Lois Brown Clark. He served in the Army as a medic and a mechanic, during World War II. After the war he moved to Livermore, California where he met and married the love of his life, Dolores Sandbeck On May 3rd, 1947 in Reno, Nevada and were married for 73 years. They were married for 73 years and resided in Chico and Durham, for over 70 years. Dolores passed away on September 21, 2020.
Jesse went to work as a barber in Chico for many years before he and a barber friend opened a shop together in Durham. After working for 10 years there, he went on to work 25 years for the Durham School District as the maintenance and transportation supervisor. During his retirement, he went to work for Bestway Painters for another 10 years.
Jesse had a passion for reading history and autobiographies. He loved to hunt, fish, camp, travel the U.S., visit ghost towns, and golf. His greatest passion was spending time with his family and reliving World War II stories. He was active in both, his kids and grandkids lives and their sports. He was known for his quick wit, his infectious smile and his kind and compassionate spirit. He was a great storyteller and loved telling jokes. Jesse and Dolores enjoyed their years living at Sycamore Glen.
We always called him Dad or Grandpa and never by his first name. Jesse was preceded in death by his dad, Jesse, and his mom, Lois, and his four sisters Evelyn, Virginia, Eloise, and Gladys. He is survived by his 4 kids Jerry Clark (Vicky) of Willows, CA, Larry Clark (Janet) of Chico, CA, Peggy Clark of Beaverton, OR, and Vicky Ballock of Idaho Falls, ID, seven grandkids, and twelve great-grandkids.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, March 27th, 2021 for both Dolores and Jesse Clark. The celebration will be held at the Durham community park at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project.
