Claude Payne, 87, of Woodway died Sunday August 16, 1987 at a Waco hospital.
Services were at 10 a. m. Tuesday August 18th at Connally-Compton Funeral Home Chapel, the Rev. Michael Toby and the Rev. Andy Walker officiating. Burial was at Waco Memorial Park.
Mr. Payne was born March 10, 1900, in Johnson County to Charley Stevens Payne and Sarah Frances Mickless. He married Edith Pearl Carpenter in 1917 in Moody, Texas.
He was a charter member o First Baptist Church of Woodway and was its oldest deacon.
Survivors include a daughter, Darville Hampton of Waco; a son Earl Payne of Oregon; a sister Lina Mason of Austin; a brother Kirk Payne of Houston; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
The family has designated First Baptist Church of Woodway for memorials.
