Fourth son of John Eiseman Barringer, Sr. and Christiana Catrina Killian. Jacob married Sarah Cress (Salley) Bost on 22 Aug 1808. They had seven (?) children; Aaron 1809, Nancy 1811, Lewis 1814, Matthias 1816, Rebecca 1819, Edmund 1821 and Catharine 1823. Salley died in 1824 when five of the children were ten years old or younger. Many widowers with young children would remarry right away but no record has been found. For years his death date was speculated to be between 1830 and 1855, but he is shown on the 1850 Federal Census with second wife Mary Hartsell Barringer (married 24 Jan 1842), occupation "Farmer". No previous records of Mary have been found. Jacob's burial place is believed to be at St. John's but no record or marker is known. Since his grandfather John Paul and grandmother Anna Elizabeth Eiseman Barringer, his father and mother and both of his known wives are buried there, it is highly likely that he is there, too. His third child, Lewis Alexander Barringer (b.1814) is my greatX2 grandfather. Lewis came to west Alabama before the Civil War and eventually settled in Coker, Ala where some of his land remains in the family. Jacob's death date is based on an obituary from 1856. It COULD be a different Jacob. The search continues....
