Mr. Grady Eugene "Gene" Anderson, 86, passed away at his home in Elberton on March 25, 2020.

A lifelong native of Elbert County, Mr. Anderson was the son of the late Walton Lester Anderson and Macy Burton Anderson.

He is survived by his wife, Iris Tate Anderson and his two daughters: Yvonne A. Skenes (Gary) of Atlanta and Katrina Anderson of Elberton. Additionally, he is survived by three sisters: Lavera Balchin of Elberton, Pauline VanBuskirk of Tampa, Florida and Ann Brown of Hartwell as well as two brothers: Pete Anderson of Iva, South Carolina and Buster Anderson of Colorado Springs, Colorado.

He was preceded in death by four siblings: Oscar, Alfred, Jack, and Betty.

Mr. Anderson was a dedicated law enforcement officer for over 50 years. He began his career as a police officer in Elberton. Following that, he served as a Sargent with the Department of Natural Resources in Elbert County and ten surrounding counties. His final and most beloved position in law enforcement was as Sheriff of Elbert County. His reputation as a fair and honest officer was well known by everyone far and wide. His motto was, “no matter the color of your skin, the amount of money in your pocket, or the prestige you held in the community was of no concern --- everyone was treated equally.”

Mr. Anderson was a Korean veteran, a member of the First Baptist Church of Elberton, the Elbert County Historical Society, the Sons of the American Revolution, and a Mason for 58 years.
