Obituary
Robert "Captain Bob" L Smith, 82, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away on March 25, 2020 at Christian Hospital N.E. in Saint Louis, Missouri. He was born December 12, 1937 in Mount Vernon, Illinois to the late W.A. "Dick" and Joyce (Holloway) Smith. Bob married Carolann (Bruzan) Smith on July 4, 1959 in Mount Vernon, Illinois.

In addition to his wife of sixty-years, Bob is survived by his children, Adrienne B Smith, Christopher R Smith, Matthew R. Smith; two grandchildren; brother, Richard "Dicky" Smith and wife, Kathy of Mount Vernon, Illinois; brothers-in-law, Albert Bruzan, Raymond, Florian Bruzan; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his infant brother, Christopher.

Mr. Smith worked as an operating engineer installing pipeline for ten years. Bob proudly served the City of Mount Vernon as Police Captain beginning on December 16, 1974 and he served for twenty-five years. He retired from traveling world wide for Lays Manufacturing Company working on large coal mining equipment. Bob was a master of many trades including: plumbing, electrician, wire work, carpentry, masonry, heating/cooling, and roofing. He could do whatever he set his hand. Mr. Smith enjoyed fishing, camping, and traveling. He loved a good joke but his trademark was telling a bad joke. Bob loved reading, airplanes, and soloed as a pilot. He was a good friend and will be dearly missed.
