Jamie loved her family, life, and school, and always had a close circle of friends. Throughout school she was active in sports, especially basketball, earning all-district honors; cheerleading; and in UIL activities, especially One Act Play, and was awarded Best Actress her senior year. Her journey included stops in Gordon, Follett, and Lorraine before graduating from Mart High School in 1994 with honors.
Following high school, Jamie attended McLennan Junior College, the University of Houston, and the University of Texas, but she followed her heart to become wife to Melvin James, Jr., and to become what was her happiest achievement, mother to Mendi and Makenzie James. She later received her Associates Degree in Cardiac Sonography and joined the team at Dell Children’s Hospital as a pediatric sonographer.
Jamie served for years in the nursery at Twin Lakes Fellowship and also became an “AWANA Mom.” She enjoyed taking the girls to sports activities at the YMCA, and she and Melvin coached their soccer teams. She was a skilled sonographer and served as secretary for the Austin Area Echo Society. She loved their company picnics and often managed them as well as the annual office Christmas parties. Jamie held a special place in her heart for time spent with family during Christmas. In their home, she made sure everyone had more than enough presents when we celebrated at 5 a.m. Christmas morning.
Jamie is survived by her daughters, Mendi Jade James and Makenzie Jasmine James; husband, Melvin James; mother, Thelma McGhee; mother-in-law, Shirley James; brothers Heath McGhee, Jason McGhee, Chod McGhee, Scott McGhee, Cody Stanley, and Chad Stanley; Uncle Freddie Chappell and Aunt Janis Chappell; her birth father, Ronnie Stanley; and forever best friends LaRhonda Ross and Sheila James. She is also survived by a large extended family of aunts and uncles, cousins, in-laws, and friends.
Jamie was preceded in death by her beloved Granny, Lula Bell Chappell; baby sister, K’Cee Ruth McGhee; and her adopted Dad, Dan McGhee.
Jamie slipped away to peace on Sunday, March 1, 2020, in Cedar Park, Texas. We all loved her very much. Rest in peace.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jamie James Memorial Fund on GoFundMe to benefit her daughters’ college education.
