Henry was the son of Henry Cosby Sr and Julia Sturn Cosby. He was the oldest of 4 children and the only boy. His first job was at age 16 working for Southern Railways as a Chef. at 17, he began employment with the Blue Bird Body Company in Fort Valley, Georgia, which was just being built. From being a part of the construction crew, Henry continued in various positions with the company to include Lead Supervisor, until his medical disability retirement due to health reasons after over 30 years of employment. He received the Gold Star for his faithful service.
He joined the St John AME Church in Marshallville, Georgia as a young boy and remained an active member for over 80 years.
Henry was one of the first residents of the Five Points community in Perry, Georgia, building his home there in 1962 and residing there over 50 years. He started a garden from which he feed many in the area and he allowed neighbors without electricity to run lines to his home. His favorite hobby was fishing with his wife and son, Harvey. He also enjoyed watching the news, sporting events and game shows and cooking out with his daughters, Catherine and Gloria. He loved spending time with all 8 of his children.
He was married to Rebertha "Candy" Whitfield Cosby on October 9, 1979. He was preceded in death by 1 daughter, Gloria Ann Cosby Gilbert and 2 sons, Larry Cosby and Harvey Lee Cosby, 2 sisters, Mamie Cosby Rush and Catherine Cosby Allen.
Survivors:
4 Daughters: Catherine Cosby Solomon(Curtis), Julie Mae Cosby Ogburn, Cathy Fields and Pamela Cosby.
2 Sons: Henry Lee Cosby III and Ray Cosby(Murtis).
1 Sister: Willie Mae Parker.
1 Daughter-In-Law: Patricia Cosby.
1 Sister-In-Law: Beatrice Carroll.
Graveside services were held Saturday, March 28, 2020 at 11AM in the Woodlawn City Cemetery in Perry, Georgia.
