Emma Jean Walters, 86, of Muskogee, Oklahoma passed away on Saturday, March 21, 2020 at St. Francis Hospital, Muskogee.
Emma Jean was born on August 23, 1933 in Muskogee to Paul and Rosa (Bullock) Thompson. She graduated from Muskogee Central High School with Class of 1951. She chose to drop her first name after graduation.
On the 4th of July, 1953, Jean married Keith Edward Walters. They shared 67 years of a happy and loving marriage. Every year the celebrations got bigger and louder with fireworks. Jean’s neighbors, the Dealy’s, baked them a beautiful red, white & and blue cake for their anniversaries. Their sons kept the skies bright and sparkly.
Jean worked at Southwestern Bell Telephone, Callery Chemical, Container Corporation and retired from Commercial Bank in 1980.
She was a member of the American Business Women’s Association and the Twirlers Square Dance Club. She and Keith made many lifelong friends square dancing through the years. They also watched 0U football games with special friends, Chuck and Carol Boyd of Norman.
Jean was big sports enthusiast, but her real love was for Oklahoma Sooners. Jean loved taking trips especially with their dear friends, Jim and Shirley Wallace. She was always ready for ballgames, concerts, entertaining visits to Branson or just going out to eat. Jean enjoyed doing ceramics and generously gave her beautiful hand painted items to friends and family. She was a whiz playing Scrabble and had her share of wins playing Dominoes. Jean was happiest when she had a house full of people enjoying her cooking. She loved to bake and provided her sister with her famous Brown Eyed Susan cookies for all her Food Days at work, luncheons or just because. Thanksgiving was her favorite holiday making fudge, pumpkin bread and all the goodies with her daughter.
Jean is preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Frank Murray and Charles Thompson.
She is survived by her husband, Keith; daughter, Paula Jean Gorden and husband, Doug; sister, Beth Sizemore; sister-in-law, Wyvonna Thompson; nieces, Carrie Stokes, Cindy McCormick (David), Connie Dockrey (Jack); and nephews, Stephen Sizemore (Debbie), Charles Thompson Jr (Cathy), Cole Thompson and one special niece, Susan Dees, who was born on her birthday.
Jean, known for her sweet smile, even in the hospital, was loved very much by her family and friends and will be missed by all who knew her.
A celebration of Jean’s life will be 10AM, Wednesday, March 25, 2020 at Cornerstone Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Donnie Echols officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Gibson National Cemetery with Doug Gorden, Chuck Boyd, Ken Hayes, John Dealy, George Ivy and Bill Pollock serving as honorary pallbearers.
